The best time to see the David
The best time to see Michelangelo's David depends on what you trade off: crowds, weather or price. The Accademia is open Tuesday to Sunday from 08:15 to 18:50 and closed on Mondays, 1 January and 25 December. The last entry is 18:10.
There is no secret hour that is always empty, so the useful levers are the season, the day of the week and a reserved time slot. Book first on the Accademia Gallery tickets page, then use the sections below to pick a month. Hours and closing days are listed in full under opening hours.

Crowds through the year
A seasonal pattern, not a forecast for a single day.
March to October
This is the busier part of the year. Public holidays and long weekends around them add to it.
October to February
This is the quieter stretch. October sits in both ranges, so treat it as a middle month and do not expect a sharp line between seasons.
Reservations
Without a reservation, waits can be longer. A reserved time slot costs €4 on top of the €20 ticket in 2026, a total of €24. Arrive a little before your slot.
Late in the day
Last entry is 18:10, and the upper rooms with the instruments are closed from 18:40. If you come late, go to the David first.
Crowd levels also change from one day to the next, so stay flexible. If your dates are fixed, a booked slot matters more than the exact hour.
Our pick: a small group
Our take: if crowds worry you, a group of ten feels calmer in the gallery.

Weather in Florence by month
Long-term monthly averages for Florence, reference period 1971 to 2000.
| Month | Average high (°C) | Average low (°C) | Rain (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 10.9 | 2.0 | 60.5 |
| February | 12.5 | 2.5 | 63.7 |
| March | 15.7 | 4.9 | 63.5 |
| April | 18.5 | 7.5 | 86.4 |
| May | 23.7 | 11.6 | 70.0 |
| June | 27.7 | 15.0 | 57.1 |
| July | 31.4 | 17.7 | 36.7 |
| August | 31.5 | 17.7 | 56.0 |
| September | 26.7 | 14.4 | 79.6 |
| October | 20.9 | 10.1 | 104.2 |
| November | 14.7 | 5.1 | 113.6 |
| December | 11.1 | 2.6 | 81.3 |
These are averages from a past reference period, not a forecast and not a guarantee for any day. Reading the table: spring and autumn are milder than July and August, when the average high is above 31 °C. Autumn is the wettest part of the year, with November at 113.6 mm. The gallery is indoors, so rain matters mostly for the walk between sights.
Winter (December to February)
Highs of 11 to 12.5 °C and lows near 2 °C. This falls in the quieter stretch, so it suits you if you want fewer people and accept cool days.
Spring (March to May)
Highs rise from 15.7 to 23.7 °C. April is the wettest spring month at 86.4 mm. The busier stretch begins in March.
Summer (June to August)
Highs of 27.7 to 31.5 °C and the least rain of the year in July at 36.7 mm. Plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning.
Autumn (September to November)
Highs fall from 26.7 to 14.7 °C while rain increases. October and November are the wettest months in the table. October is the overlap month between the busy and the quiet stretch.

Which day of the week
Weekly closing days shape the plan more than any quiet hour.
| Day | Accademia | Bargello and Medici Chapels | Casa Buonarroti |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | Closed | Closed | 10:00–16:30 |
| Tuesday | 08:15–18:50 | 08:15–18:50 | Closed |
| Wednesday to Sunday | 08:15–18:50 | 08:15–18:50 | 10:00–16:30 |
For most visitors, a Tuesday to Sunday morning slot for the David and a Monday for Casa Buonarroti or the basilica of Santa Croce make a workable week. Santa Croce is open Monday to Saturday 09:30–17:30 and on Sunday 14:00–17:30. Casa Buonarroti also closes on 1 January, Easter Sunday, 15 August and 25 December. More on these sights is in Michelangelo in Florence.
