Accademia Gallery tours and guided visits
A guided visit to the Galleria dell'Accademia takes you through the museum with a guide and usually centres on Michelangelo's David in the Tribuna. The museum itself holds much more: sculpture, Florentine paintings and a collection of instruments. A good visit explains the David and also the Prisoners in the hall that leads to it.
Tour offers vary. Some sell only the guide and leave admission to you, others bundle admission with the guide. Check before you pay which of the two you are buying, and read the offer for languages, meeting point and cancellation terms.

Our picks: Accademia tours
Our take: the express tour from Piazza San Marco is the classic hour. The art historian tour keeps the group to ten, and the small-group tour includes the ticket at a lower price.

What a guided visit covers
The museum's route gives the outline a guide can follow.
The David in the Tribuna
The statue was made between 1501 and 1504 and stands in a hall built for it. A guide can explain the order for the statue, the move from the Piazza della Signoria in 1873 and what the figure shows: David before the fight, with sling and stone.
David facts →The Prisoners
Four unfinished male figures stand in the hall before the Tribuna. They were made for the tomb project of Pope Julius II, and the museum dates them to the early 1530s.
The Prisoners →Paintings, plaster models, instruments
The collection holds Florentine painting, especially gold-ground panels, plaster models by Lorenzo Bartolini and instruments including two Stradivari. A shorter guided visit may skip these rooms, so check the offer.
The gallery rooms →How to book a guided visit
Four checks before you pay.
1. Pick the date and time
Regular hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 08:15 to 18:50, with last entry normally at 18:10. Choose a start that leaves room for the whole visit.
Opening hours →2. Check what the price covers
Find out whether admission is included. An adult ticket costs €20 plus a €4 reservation in 2026, so a guide priced far below that is probably guide only.
Ticket prices →3. Read the details
Look at the language, the meeting point, the group size and the cancellation terms in the offer itself. They differ from one offer to the next.
4. Bring your ID
Tickets with names are checked against ID at the entrance. Reduced and free entries need proof of age or status.
Guided visit, audio guide or your own guide
Three ways to see the David with explanation.
| Option | What you pay for | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Museum audio guide | €6 at the museum, ID as deposit, plus your ticket | Visitors who want to set their own pace |
| Guide booked separately | The guide's fee, plus your own €24 ticket | Small groups who book a guide directly |
| Package with admission | One price for guide and entry, shown as two items | Visitors who want one booking |
For most first-time visitors who want the story behind the statue, a guided visit with admission shown separately is the simplest option, because the entry time is fixed by one booking. If you prefer to go alone, buy the Accademia ticket and add the audio guide on the day.
Rules that apply on a guided visit too
A guide does not change the museum's rules. Everyone goes through the security check.
- Groups: up to 20 people without a guide. From 6 people, a whisper system is required.
- Photos: personal photos are allowed without flash or tripod, following the staff's instructions.
- Bags: nothing larger than 40 × 30 × 18 cm, including big backpacks. There is no cloakroom inside.
- Water: up to 0.5 litres in a small closed container, with no eating or drinking in the rooms.
- Behaviour: no touching of the works, no selfie sticks or drones, phones on silent.

Claims to read carefully
The museum's rules forbid misleading skip-the-line or special-access advertising and forbid sellers from posing as the museum. Treat promises of no queue with care and look at what the offer actually includes. A reserved time slot fixes your entry time, but it does not remove the security check. Ask the seller about private early entry only if the offer includes it. Add the Uffizi or other sights only as separate bookings, as described on the Uffizi and Accademia page.

Accademia Gallery tours: frequently asked questions
Is the admission ticket included in a guided tour?
It depends on the offer. Some tours sell only the guide, others bundle both. The museum's rules require that admission and guide are shown separately, so look for two items.
Does a guide let me skip the queue?
Not by itself. Everyone goes through the security check, and the museum's rules forbid misleading skip-the-line advertising. A reserved time slot does fix your entry time.
Can I rent an audio guide at the museum?
Yes. It costs €6, and you leave an original ID as a deposit.
How large can a group be?
Up to 20 people without a guide. From 6 people, a whisper system is required.
Can I take photos on a tour?
Personal photos are allowed without flash or tripod, following the staff's instructions. The same rules apply to guided and unguided visitors.
Is this site an official tour operator?
No. This is an independent guide. It is not run by the Galleria dell'Accademia or by any tour operator, and it does not run tours itself.
